Peekskill Coffee House: Bohemian Style on the Hudson

Just up the street from the Peekskill Metro-North Station and across the street from the classic rock/comedy venue the Paramount Theater, the Peekskill Coffee House strikes a chord in the burgeoning arts scene of this gritty river town.

First things first: the coffee! Burlap bags from coffee hot spots around the globe-Costa Rica to Kenya to Brazil—hint at the focus of this hangout, and the roaster in the middle of the floor lets you know they are serious about the product that ends up in your cup. The friendly staff—no matter how busy, they bring good cheer—are excellent in turning out tasty mochas, cappuccinos, and café lattes, in pretty quick fashion.

Food is above-average café fare. Bagels and pastries are fresh—we like the chocolate croissants a bunch—and the paninis hearty enough for a full lunch. The classico with just pesto, tomato and mozzarella is to die for. You also have the option to BYO (build your own) sandwich, and if that’s too heavy, the spinach and arugula salads are always fresh and on point. Crepes, sweet and savory, are a house favorite.
